necrotizing sialometaplasia
Medical Definition
A reactive and self-limiting inflammation of the salivary glands that results in degeneration and necrosis of salivary acini and ductal squamous metaplasia. it usually affects the minor salivary glands in the posterolateral hard palate. it is probably caused by trauma and hypoxia.
